Survivor and Amazing Race to continue with 90-minute episodes in 2024

CBS has revealed their premiere dates and primetime schedule for winter 2024. And while the announcement was filled with big news, like the new Justin Hartley drama Tracker debuting in the coveted post-Super Bowl spot on Feb. 11, reality TV fans will be happy to see the continuation of some super-sizing on two of the network's long-running competition programs.

Survivor and The Amazing Race have been airing 90-minute episodes all fall as the network used the extended run-times to help compensate for a lack of scripted program during the WGA and SAG-AFTRA strikes. With both strikes now settled, the question became: When would those comedies and dramas make it back on the schedule? And would Survivor and The Amazing Race continue to be supersized? We now have our answer.

Not only is Survivor not going back to an hour, but the first two episodes of next season will actually be two-hours long. Survivor 46 will start on Feb. 28 with a two-hour premiere. After a second two-hour show on March 6, Survivor will return to 90-minute episodes for the rest of the season on March 13, when it will once again be paired with 90-minute installments of The Amazing Race, which premieres that night.

While the current Survivor 45 was specifically filmed to air at a 90-minute length due to the possibility of strikes disrupting the fall broadcast schedule, Survivor 46 was shot without knowledge of how long the episodes would end up being. "I was optimistic that 45 would work and that maybe CBS would say, 'Okay, we like it. We wish we had shot 46 for 90 minutes," Probst told EW in September. "So all of the producers in every department knew to just be thinking of 90 minutes while we're out there, and if you see an opportunity for a deeper story or you have an idea that we could add into something that's already in our game design, let's talk about it, and if we can pull it off from a production standpoint, let's do it."

However, as Probst explained then, that also meant producers could not specifically add creative wrinkles to the show that they could not afford to lose in an edit should the episodes end up just being an hour: "The challenge became: We can't create things and put them in the show without the possibility that we can then cut them out of the show. So we have to reverse engineer in the other direction. What can we do if we don't have time to show it where we could lose it and it wouldn't impact the central dramatic question of who is going home. We had a lot of fun with that. So that's my way of saying if CBS comes and says, 'Okay, maybe we will keep it for 46,' we'd be ready to take that on."

The Amazing Race is in a similar boat. The currently airing season 35 of the show was actually the 36th season filmed. CBS kept the original season 35 in the vault specifically because it was not filmed with 90-minutes in mind, so they flip-flopped seasons 35 and 36. But now, starting on March 13, the original season 35 will air as season 36 as 90-minutes anyway.

CBS also announces premiere dates for the longtime reality competition shows, and some two-hour episodes as well.

90 Day Fiancé: Daniele's Kicking Yohan Out Of The House (Does He Deserve This?)

90 Day Fiancé: The Other Way star Daniele Gates has discovered a scary secret about Yohan Geronimo and is kicking him out of their house for it.

90 Day Fiancé: The Other Way episode 17 showed Daniele Gates asking Yohan Geronimo to leave the apartment where they live together in the Dominican Republic. Yohan, 33, met Daniele, 42, when he worked as a fitness trainer and dance instructor at the hotel Daniele was staying at with her family. Daniele got married to Yohan after five months. The reality TV show star left her life in New York behind to move to the DR for good. However, Daniele has been regretting the decision as she gets to know Yohan and his intentions better.

Daniele and Yohan went to see a life coach a month ago. They thought it would help fix the issues between them. Daniele hoped they were turning over a new leaf and getting some understanding about their relationship. It helped that Yohan got a new job with a lending company and started to contribute more. For a while, everything was great between them, but then Daniele discovered something menacing about her husband.

Yohan Was Secretly Using Daniele's ATM Card

Daniele was sitting in the kitchen when she opened her bank account and found a charge of $40. She went through her account to find out this had happened multiple times. The charges were ATM withdrawals that she didn’t recognize. Daniele knew she had never been to the bank, so she asked Yohan if he had gone to the ATM and taken money out of her account. “He’s like no,” added Daniele. He kept denying it even though Daniele asked him if he was sure it wasn’t him using her card. “I never expected anything like this from him,” Daniele admitted.

Yohan Made Four Withdrawals Of $160

]

Yohan finally confessed when Daniele told him she was going to go to the bank to ask them for a video of who took the money. He banged the table and was very angry at Daniele but not apologetic. He acted as if he was entitled to the money. Yohan admitted that Daniele was on a spiritual retreat when he took the money without telling her. “We are a couple, I’m her husband,” Yohan argued. He said they both had separate accounts and not a joint one. However, since he knew her password, Yohan was able to take the card and withdraw the money. “There’s no such thing as stealing from your wife,” Yohan claimed.

To Daniele, the issue was more about Yohan lying. Yohan claimed she was the one making the withdrawals and blaming him. As per Daniele's bank statement, Yohan made four withdrawals for a total of $160. However, Daniele's anger had nothing to do with how much money he took. She was scared because Yohan said “no” when she asked him. Yohan claimed he needed the money for food, but Daniele revealed they had a fully stocked fridge and 20 pounds of rice at all times in their house.

Daniele Knows It's 'Evidence' Yohan Is With Her For Money

“You think that because you have an American wife she’ll pay for everything. That’s not the life I want,” said Daniele. Daniele asked Yohan to pay for half of the things in their house on the first of the next month. “If you don’t want to pay that, you need to live at your mom’s house,” she said. Daniele asked Yohan to find another American wife, even saying she was willing to refer him to one.

“You are out of your mind and I don’t want you here,” she told him. Daniele could understand Yohan not being able to contribute equally when he didn’t have a job. However, he chose to steal from Daniele even when he had a job. “This is more evidence that Yohan is only with me for money,” the 90 Day Fiancé: The Other Way star added.

Oppenheimer: Cillian Murphy Reveals Trick To Overcome 1 Challenging Scene

Cillian Murphy recalls one scene from Oppenheimer that he was particularly nervous about and the creative way he ended up overcoming it.

Oppenheimer star Cillian Murphy recalls how he overcame one particularly challenging scene while filming Christopher Nolan's historical drama. Released this past summer to rave reviews and a strong performance at the box office, Nolan's latest film chronicles the life and career of American theoretical physicist J. Robert Oppenheimer, who is widely known as the father of the atomic bomb. Murphy plays the titular character at various stages of the man's life, with the actor's performance garnering significant praise.

In Unleashing Oppenheimer: Inside Christopher Nolan's Explosive Atomic-Age Thriller by Jada Yuan (via Slash Film), Murphy recalls that he was especially nervous about filming one Oppenheimer scene in which he would be speaking Dutch.

"It's a small scene, but I remember talking to Chris in preproduction and saying, 'Chris, what do you want to do about this Dutch scene?' And he said, 'What are you going to do about this Dutch scene?' It's very much that he works at the top of his game, so he expects everyone else to do their work, to do their due diligence."

The solution, it turns out, was to turn to the movie's Dutch-speaking cinematographer, Hoyte van Hoytema, who translated part of Oppenheimer's lecture into Dutch and recorded himself saying the words aloud for Murphy. "I listened to it and repeated it for about three months every morning," Murphy recalled. "I can still say it. It's one of those things that I will never forget because I did it so many times."

Murphy is a longtime Nolan collaborator, first working with the director on Batman Begins. The actor would return in a supporting capacity for a number of Nolan's films, including both Dark Knight sequels, Inception, and Dunkirk. It wasn't until Oppenheimer, however, that Murphy got to take on a challenging starring role for Nolan, arguably the culmination of decades' worth of powerful performances.

Murphy is perhaps not a typical leading man type of actor, often playing characters with tragic backstories or an inner darkness. It was this unique quality that made him such a perfect fit for Oppenheimer, with Nolan's film delving into the deepest and darkest crevices of the man's life. The film doesn't shy away from portraying Oppenheimer's shortcomings and failures both as a man and as a physicist, in addition to the guilt he feels throughout his life due to his creation.

Not only does Murphy capture Oppenheimer's inner tragedy, but he's also able to perfectly capture his genius. For all of the man's flaws, he's also incredibly intellectually gifted, and Murphy effectively conveys this in his performance, including in the scene in which he's speaking in Dutch. It remains to be seen how Oppenheimer will fare come awards season, but Murphy is already looking like a top Best Actor contender at the Oscars.

Brando Meyer reveals he received an unseen Survivor tribe swap advantage

It was a battle of the self-proclaimed nerds on Survivor 45 this week, and in the war for Emily Flippen's vote, Brando Meyer lost. Brando became the fifth person out after his Belo tribe lost the immunity challenge and Emily sided with original Reba tribe members Drew Basile and Austin Li Coon over original Belo players Brando and Kendra McQuarrie.

The last-minute scrambling featured an awkward back-and-forth were Brando offered Drew his Shot in the Dark, which Drew refused. Drew than told Emily how Brando had offered to vote out Kendra, which Emily immediately brought back to Brando, who denied it. After all the he-said, he-said, Emily joined Drew and Austin in voting out Brando.

How does Brando feel about his ouster? Why did he offer up his Shot in the Dark? And how does he feel about his relative lack of screen time during the season? We asked the 23-year-old software developer all that and more, and the Pokémon GO super-fan reveals he received a mystery tribe swap advantage… but didn't read it it time. (You can watch the entire interview above or read it below.)

ENTERTAINMENT WEEKLY: Ultimately, it all came down to Emily. Why could you all not sway her to your side?

BRANDO MEYER: I think a big part of it is Emily had her mind made up early and it was an uphill battle for me. I think I could have done a better job fighting to get her on my side. We've heard about the unaired twist where Kendra went to Lulu beach. One of the things that she came back to Belo with was "I spent a lot of time with Emily. I really like Emily. We got good vibes from each other."

And so going into the swap, we were under the perception that we already kind of had her in our three. And so I think there were some missing pieces there that had I picked up on that I might've done a better job swaying Emily towards us.

Did Austin and Drew work harder and earlier to get her on their side, or did we just not see your and Kendra's efforts right after the swap?

Kendra and I definitely spent a good amount of time talking to Emily and reassuring that we had her, but there were definitely some arguments that we could have made that weren't there. I know one of the big arguments that we saw in the episode from Drew and Austin was "We want to go all the way to the end with you. We want to take you really far." We didn't make that argument. It was more of a "You can go further than one or two people," but we didn't commit to the final three agreement.

So when you went to Tribal that night, what did you think was going to happen? Kendra looked absolutely shocked. When you walked in there, what did you think was going to go down?

I was convinced I had done a good enough job with Drew to get Austin and Drew to vote for Kendra, and then I was under the assumption that Kendra, Emily, and I would be voting out Drew. So not only did I not think that I was going home, I didn't even think that my name was going to come up. And so it was a little bit shocking to say the least.

So let's get into that. We saw you offer Drew your Shot in the Dark. What was your thinking there in offering that up?

So the idea behind that was: Look, I'm a numbers guy. A one in six chance? Not great. I was never planning on playing my Shot in the Dark, even if I needed it. On a tribe of five, your vote is so important. And so I figured that was a bargaining piece I could use. Emily did tell us at camp that she had used hers in a deal with Sabiyah previously, and so that was my inspiration. But I was hoping that by giving it to Drew — not going to play it anyways — if I vote him out with it, whatever, but it was just to sort of sway him towards voting for Kendra.

The really surprising part of that is when Drew doesn't take it because I'm struggling to find the upside of not taking it. Were you surprised when he was like, "No, it's all good?"

I think a big part of not taking it was making me feel comfortable, because in that moment I was like, "Okay, if he's not going to take it, we're already cool" — even though we had a little bit of a road bump with the whole nerd alliance talk. But actually, I offered it to him again later. He did take it. It was in his pocket for maybe 30 seconds, then he felt bad and gave it back to me. So I think part of it was that he felt bad. Part of it was that he was trying to convince me that I was safe.

Wow. So he had it in his pocket and then gave it back to you. That's amazing. So tell me what's going through your mind when Emily comes up to you and informs you that Drew just told her everything you told him about being fine to get rid of Kendra?

I think you can tell, but I was really caught off guard, and my first instinct was just to deny it. And looking back, I definitely got caught up in that lie when Emily went back and talked to Drew and Austin. So I think if I were to relive that moment, I would just tell her the truth. I didn't have a reason to lie to Emily. Emily was there when Drew shut down the nerd alliance, so I think she would've understood.

Did you ever come clean to Kendra and Emily about that, or did they find out about it by watching it on TV last night?

They found out about it by watching it on TV. So it felt a little bit bad, but they go further than me, so can't complain.

Any text messages going back and forth last night about that?

I don't know if I'm allowed to say, but I won't confirm or deny.

Okay, good enough. So you brought up the nerd alliance chat with Drew. How surprised were you when you floated that and he shot you down? Because that very rarely happens on Survivor. If someone offers you an alliance, you always accept it, even if you don't plan to honor it.

Oh my God, yeah. I was stunned. To be fair, when I was offering it to him, I also didn't really mean it. I was going to gun for him the whole time. So I don't totally blame him for shutting me down. But I will say that I was shocked. It wasn't a move that I would ever expect somebody to make because if anything, it gives me more reason to vote him out. We've seen how honest his game is though, so maybe it was all part of the plan.

So, the nice thing about winning challenges is that you don't have to go to Tribal Council. The not-so-nice thing is that there's a good chance you're not going to get a lot of screen time, and you did not get a lot of screen time. How was it dealing with that and waiting five months to see yourself on TV, and then not seeing a whole lot of yourself?

Coming out of the game. I was very prepared for that. I would always say I went out there, I went camping for 11 days and then I got voted out at my first Tribal. So I didn't have high expectations for my screen time. I will say I was pleasantly surprised with the first two episodes, and then three and four, I knew I didn't really do anything. So a little bit heartbreaking, but I didn't really expect much.

What's something that happened out there that didn't make it to TV that you wish we could have seen?

I think something that we didn't get to see — and also that I didn't get to see — was at the swap when we get our buffs and we have our new fresh buffs in our hand, mine felt a little bit weird. And so I'm unwrapping it, and there's a note inside of my buff stitched into the buff. So I rip it out, I shove it in my pocket, and I'm like, "Alright, I'm going to look at this when I get back to camp."

We get back to camp, I get pulled for [an interview] and then I'm like, "Oh, is this about the note that I got? I probably have some sort of advantage. This could be an idol clue. Maybe the idols just got put into play." Lo and behold, I think I missed my window of opportunity with that one because it was taken from me. So I don't know what it said. It could have said "You may swap tribes with somebody else." Maybe I could have saved myself. Who knows? But future players, always read the note when you get it.

That is fascinating. We're guessing that it was probably some sort of advantage or thing you could do right there at the swap because it was null and void by the time you got back to the beach. Right. I was so worried that somebody would see me reading it, so I was like, "I'm not even going to risk it. It's going in the pocket." And then I think I missed my window with that one.

How much have you been playing it in your mind in the past six months of what that might've been?

Yeah, people say that they come out of Survivor with regrets a lot of the time. My only regret from my 11 days out there is not at least reading what it said before I handed the note over and knowing at least if I had a chance to save myself. I would at least like to know that. So that's been on my mind. Also, what could it be? Maybe we could have swapped beaches. Maybe I could have swapped with somebody. Maybe I could have swapped people on the other tribes, in which case it would've been basically useless for me. I guess we'll never know.

Well, maybe we will. This is just guesswork, but if it didn't happen in 45, maybe they're going to put it into 46. So maybe you'll get your answer in a few months. Alright, if you could smash an hourglass and go back to change one thing that might then lead you down a different path in the game, what would it be?

Well, other than reading that note on the mat at the swap, I think I would maybe change the way that I handled the argument with Emily towards which way she should vote. I think that there were some components that I missed out on, maybe coming clean instead of lying to her about the whole Drew thing would've been big. So I think the way that I scrambled before Tribal is the big thing I would've changed.

And also, more time looking for the idol on Belo beach. There was a very big anti-idol hunting culture. We always had something to be doing. If someone was missing, we were wondering what they were doing, and I didn't want to be that person. So I think I should have spent more time looking for that idol.

If Belo had lost a challenge — and luckily you were competing against Lulu, so that wasn't going to happen — but if you had lost an immunity challenge, who would've gone home?

I've seen a lot of speculation about which way Kellie and I would've gone. We were tight in the middle. But I hate to say it: I think Bruce would've been the one headed home first from Belo. And so had we gone to that very first Tribal Council, he might've relived his fate. So maybe for the best.

So do you go by Brando in your everyday life, or was Brando just to avoid having two Brandons on the same season?

I was going by Brando for the whole casting process. A good amount of my hometown friends call me Brando. I've been called Brando for a long time. But to my boss, to my coworkers, to my doctors, I'm always going to be Brandon. So there's a little bit of a mix, but I was Brando all the way through the Survivor process.

You've been a fan of the show and the game, so what was it like now experiencing watching yourself playing it?

It was amazing. And I will say, everyone talks about, hearing your own voice on TV is so weird. And so as much as it's rough not having a lot of screen time, I do feel like I got to enjoy the show more because I wasn't thinking about myself while I was watching it, if that makes sense.

90 Day Fiancé: Nikki Exotika's Surprising Reality TV Past Explained

90 Day Fiancé is not Nicole aka Nikki Exotika's first reality TV gig because, before that, she was a part of Botched!, Maury, Jerseylicious, and more.

90 Day Fiancé isn’t the only reality TV show that Nicole Sanders aka Nikki Exotika has participated in. Nikki is a 47-year-old from Hoboken, New Jersey who stars in season 10 of the popular series. Nikki features alongside Igor aka Justin, her partner from Moldova who’s 36. Nikki met Justin over 17 years ago, and two years later, they were engaged. Nikki brought Justin to America on a K-1 visa. However, within two weeks, Nikki and Justin split. At the time, Justin had just found out that Nikki was a trans woman. He felt betrayed, but the couple stayed in touch.

Nikki and Justin rekindled their relationship 15 years later. They got engaged, and Nikki has applied for a K-1 visa again. Nikki flew to Chişinău on 90 Day Fiancé to confirm whether Justin has really accepted her identity and whether they are ready to get married. Meanwhile, Nikki has been in the news for several reasons apart from her relationship, such as her many plastic surgeries and her reality TV past. Not only was Nikki about to launch her own reality TV show, but she’s also made appearances on Maury, The Tyra Banks Show, and many other series.

Nikki Had Filmed For Botched Season 1

A DailyMail article in 2014 relayed Nikki’s experience with the E! show Botched after she posted about it on Facebook. Nikki was openly living as a transgender woman by then. Nikki claimed to have lost her home after filming for the TV show. Nikki underwent a breast surgery correction in Los Angeles which was filmed for the show. Nikki claims she was unable to work for two months and therefore, was unable to pay the rent. Nikki lost her apartment in the process. She spoke about having “dedicated her life” to Botched, but by then, the producers refused to even speak to her.

“I lost everything, I'm very distraught with everything that's gone down with the TV show Botched,” Nikki said in the video. Nikki thanked her doctor Dr. Dubrow for fixing her breasts and added, “in the midst of the whole TV show I lost my apartment.” Furthermore, Nikki’s segments were scrapped from the show. However, New York Daily News reported that Nikki was the one who was “difficult” to work with for the showmakers. As Nicole became more involved in the making of Botched, she apparently “became more of a diva and a liability.”

The source was sure Nikki was “cut” due to the way she “acted” and treated people on the show. Nikki was somehow grateful for getting a “free boob job,” but she believed filming the show for two months and eventually losing her apartment was not worth it. Nikki’s only desire was to become a living Barbie doll who she was obsessed with since she was four years old. Nikki slowly began getting surgeries such as nose jobs and brow lifts to change her appearance. She “fell victim” to plastic surgeon Brad Jacobs who allegedly botched Nikki’s nose and breasts. The surgeon allegedly conducted illegal surgeries on over 60 patients despite his license being revoked.

Nikki Was On Jerseylicious

Reddit user u/Clear-Map8121 recently shared a screen grab of Nikki from the show Jerseylicious. The Style Network show chronicled the lives of six New Jersey stylists in and out of their salon called The Gatsby Salon located in Green Brook Township. The reality TV show was all about these women giving makeovers to their clients, flaunting their signature styles, and gossiping with the customers. The cast and their big egos, clashing personalities, and occasional unhappy customers made Jerseylicious worth a watch. As per the Redditor, Nikki appeared in season 2 for drag makeup lessons with Olivia Blois Sharpe.

“Nikki is definitely into being on reality tv,” the fan added. Some fans in the thread’s comments weren’t sure it was Nikki because of how different she looked back then. When a commentator asked if the OP was sure it was the same person, the OP replied, “Yes it’s Nikki because in the episode her name was Nikki and she looked the same.” Nikki also promoted Jerseylicious on her own social media pages in 2014. She seems to have been a part of a later season as well because she posted a clip captioned, “season 4 Jerseylicious,” which featured Nikki as she shared screen space with make-up artist Olivia and fashion designer Thomas LaVone.

Nikki Made An Appearance On Judge Jeanine Pirro

According to Alchetron, Nikki was a guest on the Judge Jeanine Pirro show in 2011. The retired Westchester County, New York District Attorney Jeanine Pirro was the lead of the arbitration-based reality court show. The show ran for three seasons from 2008 to 2011. Nikki was suing an unnamed man over trying to break a recording contract with him that required her to pay him $15,000 when he didn't hold to his side of the agreement. Nikki had already written the song “Secret Girl,” and the man was going to record her singing it in his studio.

The man allegedly told Nikki that he had worked with the likes of Christina Aguilera and Britney Spears in the past, and Nikki fell prey to his lies. Nikki was ordered to find evidence that the man had lied about his past work by Judge Pirro. Nikki was also advised to determine what her damages from the case were. The song “Secret Girl” was released in March 2012, nearly half a year after Nikki went on the reality TV show. This could mean that the issue between Nikki and the anonymous man was resolved.
